Larry Siegel: I've seen a lot of changes over the years, but I think the biggest change has been the shift towards evidence-based practices. In the past, corrections agencies often relied on hunches and gut feelings when making decisions. But today, there is a growing emphasis on using data to drive decision-making. This has led to a number of positive changes in the way that prisons and jails are operated.

Corrections Today: What are some of the challenges facing the corrections industry today?

Larry Siegel: One of the biggest challenges is the rising cost of corrections. The United States spends more money on corrections than any other country in the world. And the cost of corrections is continuing to rise. This is putting a strain on state and local budgets, and it is making it difficult for corrections agencies to provide the necessary services to inmates.

Corrections Today: What are some of the opportunities facing the corrections industry?

Larry Siegel: I think there are a number of opportunities for the corrections industry. One opportunity is to use technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of corrections operations. Another opportunity is to develop new programs and policies that can reduce recidivism. And finally, there is an opportunity to improve the public's understanding of corrections.

Corrections Today: What do you think the future of corrections holds?

Larry Siegel: I think the future of corrections is bright. I believe that we are moving towards a more evidence-based, data-driven approach to corrections. And I believe that this will lead to a more effective and efficient corrections system.

Corrections Today: Thank you for your time, Larry.

Larry Siegel: It was my pleasure.

Larry Siegel is a visionary leader in the field of corrections. His work has had a major impact on the way that prisons and jails are operated today. And he is continuing to work to improve the corrections system for the future.
